Smithtown Building Closed

Due to the storm that occurred during the early morning hours of August 19, which caused torrential flooding, our Smithtown Building suffered catastrophic damage to its lower level. Therefore, until further notice, our Smithtown Building will be closed while we continue to assess the damage and begin to rebuild.  Our other three buildings remain open to assist our patrons. Program Description

Event Details

For all the beauty and enjoyment that Long Island’s beaches and coastal waters offer, these same peaceful vistas have, on occasion, become the scene of some of the most tragic disasters and disturbing crimes in the region’s history.  Events like the seizing of the slave ship Amistad, the sinking of the General Slocum, and the depraved acts of serial killer Carl Panzram, all occurred in the waters along Long Island’s shoreline.  Dive into the depths with maritime historian and author Adam Grohman as he recounts these infamous incidents and more.  Book sale and signing to follow.
