Absentee / Early Mail Voting

Registered voters who reside within the Smithtown Special Library District may apply for an absentee or early mail ballot. (You are registered to vote if you have voted within the last four years in a general, school or library election.  Additional information regarding voter registration may be found here).

Absentee / Early Mail Ballot Applications
The Smithtown Library Absentee / Early Mail Ballot Application may be obtained at the Reference Desks at all four of our library buildings or by downloading from the link below.

Persons designated as “permanently disabled” by the Suffolk County Board of Elections will receive an absentee ballot without making separate application with The Smithtown Library.

The Library must receive applications at least seven (7) days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or by 5:00pm on the last business day (Friday, October 11) prior to the vote if the ballot is to be personally delivered to the voter.

Notes:

  • Tuesday, October 8 (7 days prior to the vote) is the last day that applications will be accepted at any one of the Library’s four building locations.
  • Beginning Wednesday, October 9, applications must be hand-delivered to the Nesconset Building Community Relations Department, Monday-Friday, 9:30am-5:00pm. Applications will be processed immediately and voter/designee will receive the official ballot in person at that time.

Official Absentee / Early Mail Ballots
Eligible applicants will receive their ballots as indicated on their applications.

Notes:

  • Personally delivered absentee / early mail ballots can only be obtained at the Nesconset Building Community Relations Department (148 Smithtown Boulevard, Nesconset) between 9:30am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Ballots will only be mailed to absentee / early mail voters when their applications are received by the Library at least seven (7) days prior to the vote. Otherwise, they must be picked up in person.

All Smithtown Library buildings will be closed on Sunday, October 13 and Monday, October 14 in observance of Columbus Day.
