Nesconset Building Teen Programs

In-person, online and telephone registration for all July programs began on Monday, June 10.
Registration for August programs begins on July 8.
Registration is required unless otherwise noted.
Programs that require fees can be paid by credit card, cash, check or money order to The Smithtown Library.
Program fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Teen programs are open to those in grades 6-12 unless otherwise noted.

Battle of the Books
Mondays, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 • 3:30-5:00pm
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for young adults who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 10 at Stony Brook University. Teams will answer trivia questions based on eight different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun.

Murder Mystery Party
Monday, July 1 • 6:30-7:30pm
Do you have what it takes to solve the mystery before the night ends? Each attendee will take on the role of a guest at the party, each with their own unique backstory, motive, and secrets.

All About Henna for Teens
Tuesday, July 2 • 4:00-5:00pm
Create your own beautiful henna tattoos while learning about this traditional art form. Henna tattoos are not permanent, but will last for a few weeks so please make sure you are prepared for this commitment. All participants must have a permission slip filled out by a parent/guardian.

Book Sale Room Volunteers

Chess and Checkers Buddies Volunteers

Teach younger children how to play chess and checkers. You do not have to be an expert to volunteer but knowledge of the rules is required.

DIY Moon Lamp
Thursday, July 11 • 11:00am-12:00pm
Create a glowing moon lamp using balloons and papier-mâché. It will add a calming presence to any room.

Toy Paramedic Volunteers
Friday, July 12 • 2:30-3:30pm
Help keep our children's toys in tip top shape. We will clean and sanitize, replace batteries and organize for our littlest patrons.

Galaxy Cupcakes
Tuesday, July 16 • 6:30-7:30pm
Join the Baking Coach in making cosmic treats that are out of this world. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.

Intergalactic Bath Bombs
Thursday, July 18 • 7:30-8:30pm
Create a tray of cosmic bath bombs to help you relax after a long summer day.

Constellation Canvas
Saturday, July 20 • 3:30-4:30pm
Choose your favorite constellation and watch it come to life on canvas. We will use metallic paints and LED string lights to create a star lit sky you can enjoy indoors.

Library Buddies Volunteers

Earn community service by being paired with a young child to assist him/her with reading and an art project.

Explore StarLab for Teens
Friday, July 26 • 4:00-4:45pm
Take a simulated night ride as we learn about astronomy and view the summer sky.

Galaxy Dough Volunteers

Work one-on-one with a younger child to create galaxy play dough.

Edible Mars Rover

Build and snack as we create a delicious space robot using crackers, chips and candy. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.

Light Bulb Hot Air Balloons

Before summer soars away, create mini hot air balloons using light bulbs and twine to hang outside in the summer sun.

Join in with friends to play some board games such as Munchkin, Apples to Apples, Boss Monster and more. Enjoy snacks and beverages as we go head to head in some friendly gaming competition. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.

Teen Sketch and Stretch
Friday, August 16 • 3:30-4:30pm
Sketch and Stretch offers a unique program that combines art and yoga for teens. The program begins with yoga for focus and is followed by an art lesson. Each participant will leave with a completed mini canvas painting. Yoga mats will be provided.

Candy Kebobs
Tuesday, August 20 • 3:00-4:00pm
Are you ready for a sugar rush? Visit the Library on your summer break to create candy kebobs to enjoy or share. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.

Craft Kits for Kindness
Thursday, August 22 • 2:30-3:30pm
Teen volunteers will be cutting and putting together craft kits to give to local seniors in our community nursing homes.

Flower Pot Pie
Tuesday, August 27 • 5:00-6:00pm
Join Fanny Cakes Bakery to create an edible garden featuring flowers, bugs and soil. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.
