Kings Park Building Teen Programs

In-person, online and telephone registration for all June programs began on Monday, May 13.
Registration for July programs begins on Monday, June 10.
Registration for August programs begins on Monday, July 8.

Registration is required unless otherwise noted.
Programs that require fees can be paid by credit card, cash, check or money order to The Smithtown Library.
Program fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Teen programs are open to those in grades 6-12 unless otherwise noted.


Book Buddies Volunteers
Thursday, June 6 • 4:00-5:00pm
Read to a younger book buddy. It is a rewarding experience that you won't want to miss. Each teen will receive one hour of community service.

Junior LEGO® Buddies Volunteers
Monday, June 10 • 4:00-5:00pm
Be paired with a younger child and help him/her with their LEGO® creation. Each teen will receive one hour of community service.

Battle of the Books
Thursdays, June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, Tuesday, July 30, Thursday, August 1, & Tuesday, August 6 • 3:30-5:00pm
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for teens who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 10 at Stony Brook University. Teams will answer trivia questions based on eight different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun.

Retro Gaming with RetroPie for Teens
Wednesday, June 26 • 7:00-8:00pm
Learn about the Raspberry Pi and RetroPie software that will allow you to play old school video games. Learn how to set-up, install and even demo a couple of games from the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and many other gaming systems.

Nebula Paint Night
Thursday, June 27 • 7:00-8:30pm
Use acrylic paint and cosmic colors to create your own galaxy.

Coding Buddies Volunteers

Volunteer to help a younger child with an hour of code. Each teen will receive one hour community service credit for participating.

Escape the Room
Wednesday, July 10 • 7:00-8:00pm
Work with other teens to solve puzzles, unlock keys and find hidden objects in order to escape the room in an hour or less. Do you have what it takes?

Paint and Paw with Dagger DogVinci
Monday, July 15 • 3:30-4:30pm
Unleash your inner artist with Dagger DogVinci, the painting dog. Artist Yvonne Dagger will share the journey of her pet, Dagger, from therapy dog to famous canine artist. Teens will get the opportunity to create a Dagger DogVinci style painting.

Science Buddies Volunteers
Tuesday, July 16 • 3:30-4:30pm
Join this innovative program which pairs teens and children together to work with simple, but awesome projects that explore science, engineering and math. Teens receive an hour of community service for participating.

Teen Game Night
Wednesday, July 17 • 7:00-8:00pm
Come enjoy a fun night of gaming, pizza and snacks.

Art Buddies Volunteers
Monday, July 22 • 4:00-5:00pm
Enjoy earning community service by spending an afternoon paired with a younger child for some art projects. Each teen will receive one hour of community service for participating. We will be using art materials, please dress appropriately.

Cosmic Cookies
Monday, July 22 • 7:00-8:00pm
Create an out-of-this-world treat. Each teen will get to make four cookies to take home in a bakery box. This program may not be suitable to patrons with food allergies.

Teen Movie Matinee - Harry Potter Edition
Wednesday, July 31 • 3:00-6:00pm
Celebrate Harry Potter's birthday by watching the first movie while enjoying snacks. Feel free to come in your best dress robes or Harry Potter gear.

Teen volunteers are needed to assist collecting and sorting donations as well as helping to maintain the Friends of The Smithtown Library book sale.

Game Buddies Volunteers

Play fun board games with a younger child. Each teen will receive one hour of community service for participating.

Stylin’ School Supplies
Thursday, August 22 • 7:00-8:30pm
Deck out your school supplies with paint, markers, stickers, and more. Folders, spiral notebooks, and pencil cases will be provided, however, teens may bring their own supplies to decorate.
