Battle of the Books, Jr.

Get ready for a reading rumble! We will be reading Trouble According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney and No Talking by Andrew Clements and compete in a trivia game against our Smithtown Library Buildings. Battle will take place on Thursday, July 25 from 3:00-4:00pm at the Smithtown Library-Smithtown Building. Friends and family are welcome to cheer you and your team on. Registration is in person only; beginning on June 1st. You will receive your books when you come in to register. Please note: you should be available to attend the 2 battle prep days at your library building in addition to the battle day to attend this program.

Otis M. Thornhill Memorial Peace and Literacy Event

With the support of The Smithtown Library, the Rotary Club of Smithtown Sunrise will be conducting a reading of Lilac by the author Emma Bianculli. Ms. Bianculli will talk about writing a book with the children and there will be a craft project of coloring drawings of the forest animals. This book provides the message that ‘We are all the best that we can be’. This peace and literacy event will be held at the Otis M. Thornhill Memorial Playground at the Kings Park Building. Otis M. Thornhill was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Smithtown Sunrise, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of The Smithtown Library, until his death in 2016. Each child will receive a copy of the book. In the event of rain, the program will be in the Community Room at the Kings Park Building. Dress to make a mess.
