Teen Services programs are open to those in grades 6-12 (up to age 18) unless otherwise noted.

Take and Makes
Teen Take and Bake- Shark Week Cookies
All Buildings
Celebrate Shark Week with homemade treats. Kits will be available at all Buildings beginning August 2 and must be picked up by August 31. In person or telephone registration is required. Please inform staff which building you would like to pick up your supplies from at registration. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Teen Take and Make- Coloring Book Suncatchers
Nesconset Building
Simple supplies to create a summer suncatcher. Kits will be available at the Nesconset Building beginning August 2 and must be picked up by August 31. In person or telephone registration is required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Teen Take and Make-Sun Plaques
Kings Park Building
Decorate your garden or home with a ceramic sun plaque. Kits will be available at the Kings Park Building beginning August 2 and must be picked up by August 31. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Teen Take and Make- Beaded Wind Chimes
Smithtown Building
Craft your very own wind chime that you will be able to enjoy in the garden. Kits will be available at the Smithtown Building beginning August 2 and must be picked up before August 31. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Teen Take and Make-Seashell Wall Art
Commack Building
Take home a kit with the supplies you will need to make this decoration that will remind you of summer days at the beach. Kits will be available at the Commack Building beginning August 2 and must be picked up by August 31. In person or telephone registration required.  Virtual
Video Editing with Windows 10 & YouTube
Monday, August 9 · 7:00-8:30pm
In this virtual class, learn how to combine and edit your videos using Windows 10 Video Editor and post to YouTube. Understand timelines, adding effects, transitions and text, overlay music and sound, and much more. Prerequisite basic computer knowledge. Registration required. BBQ Grill Cupcakes
Wednesday, August 11 • 7:00-8:00pm
Join the Baking Coach as we use cupcakes, frosting, candy and more to create delicious cupcake masterpieces. Pick up your ingredients kit from the Smithtown or Kings Park Building on Monday, August 9 from 4:00-9:00pm or Tuesday, August 10 from 9:30am-9:00pm. We will meet on Zoom to make the cupcakes together. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies. Registration required. Hardware Art
Monday, August 16 · 2:30pm
Create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece using nuts, bolts and washers. Kits will be available at the Nesconset Building beginning August 5. Registration required. Summer Soap Making

Keep summer going a little longer with sunshine inspired soaps. Join us at the Library for a fun and creative afternoon making soap together.
 
Animal Silhouettes

Join in the crafting fun as we use magazines and craft paper to make colorful animal silhouettes. You will go home with the perfect art piece for any space.

Conduct experiments that are too messy to do in science class. This program will be held outside and will be weather permitting. Dress to make a mess.
 
Tie Dye Baseball Caps

What is more summer than tie dye? Join us as we decorate baseball caps. This program will be held outside and will be weather permitting.
 
Harry Potter Ceramic Owls

Every Harry Potter fan knows the most useful pet to bring to Hogwarts is an owl. Paint a beautiful ceramic owl in your favorite Hogwarts house colors.
 
Pineapple Wall Art
N- Wednesday, July 21 • 4:30-5:30pm
Using geometric shapes and pops of color, we will create a pineapple art piece that is perfect for any room.
 
Tie Dye Party

Step up to the plate and enjoy a box filled with baseball themed crafts, prizes and a Mike Lupica novel to keep. Battle of the Books
Thursdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, August 5 & 12 • 3:30-5:00pm
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for teens who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place virtually on Saturday, August 14. Teams will answer trivia questions based on six different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; be able to attend meetings and be ready for a summer of reading fun. Registration required. This program will be available on Zoom. Jackbox Game Day

Join your Teen Librarians for a fun afternoon of virtual party games. Draw funny doodles, write the best inside joke or answer hilarious trivia questions. There's something for everyone. Henna for Teens

Create your own beautiful henna tattoos while learning about this traditional art form. Henna tattoos are not permanent, but will last for a few weeks so please make sure you are prepared for this commitment.
