Teen Virtual Programs

Registration requirements for all programs are listed in the description of each program. Teen Services programs are open to those in grades 6-12 unless otherwise noted.
Registration for November programs begins on Tuesday, October 13. Registration for October programs began on Monday, September 14.

November Programs

Take and Make- Totes to Fill a Table
C- November 2- November 30
Design and decorate reusable tote bags to donate to food pantries for local families to use. Each teen will be given two tote bags and markers to take home to decorate and design. Tote bags must be picked up and returned to the Commack Building before November 30th during the Library's scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis. One hour of community service will be given.
 
Take and Make- Canvas Painting
C- November 2- November 30
Bring out your inner artist with this simple gradient canvas project. All supplies are provided and a link to the how-to video will be provided. Take and Make bags must be picked up from the Commack Building before November 30 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Take and Make - Dog Treats to Donate
K- November 2- November 30
Help feed our furry friends at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. Each teen will be given a bone shaped cookie cutter, ingredients and a recipe to make delicious treats at home. Take and Make bags must be picked up from and returned to the Kings Park Building before November 30 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis. One hour of community service will be given.
 
Take and Make- Harvest Wreath
N- November 2- November 30
Put your craft skills to good use by making an autumnal wreath for your home. You will be supplied with everything you need to create a beautiful addition to your fall decor. Take and Make bags must be picked up from the Nesconset Building before November 30 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Take and Make- Pumpkin Painting

Follow step-by-step instructions to create a beautiful canvas painting! Take and make bags must be picked up from the Smithtown Building before November 30 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Take and Make - Sending Smiles
C, K, N, S- November 2- November 30
Become a Smile Maker for kids battling illnesses. Decorate wacky, funny postcards that will be sent to children’s hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses as part of the Sending Smiles organization. Postcards can be picked up at any of our Reference desks before November 30th during the Library's scheduled hours. One hour of community service will be given for three postcards. Postcards must be returned by December 14.
 
NaNoWriMo Writers Workshop
Mondays, November 2, 16 and 30 • 3:30-4:30pm
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a personal challenge to write—or attempt to write—a novel in month. Meet up throughout the month with other teen writers for advice, encouragement and various writing games and challenges. Registration required. This program will be available on Zoom. Pressed Leaf Bookmarks
Thursday, November 5 • 4:00pm
Learn how to create beautiful fall bookmarks using real leaves from your backyard.

Intermediate Dungeons and Dragons
Thursday, November 12 • 6:00 -8:00pm
Join us for a virtual adventure! This campaign is designed for experienced players with an understanding of the basic game rules. Registration required. This program will be available on Zoom. Login information for Zoom will be sent to the email address associated with your Library card on the day before the event.
 
Pie Cupcakes
Monday, November 16 • 7:00pm
Cupcakes that look like pies but taste like cupcakes? Is there anything sweeter? Join the Baking Coach as she shows us how to make three delicious pie cupcakes. Pick up your ingredients kit from the Smithtown or Kings Park building on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00am-5:00pm or Monday, November 16 from 9:00am-5:00pm. We will meet on Zoom to decorate the cupcakes together. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies. Registration is required. T-Shirt Plant Hanger

Grab a colorful t-shirt and let’s get crafty! Ms. Navins will show you a simple and no-sew way to hang your plants around your room or outside for all to enjoy. No registration required. Jackbox Game Night

Join your Teen Librarians for a fun evening of virtual party games. Draw funny doodles, write the best inside joke, or answer hilarious trivia questions. There's something for everyone. Please note: teens will need two internet-enabled devices to participate. Registration required. This program will be available on Zoom. Take and Make- Ceramic Pumpkin Dish and Box
C-October 1-31
Paint a pumpkin dish and a trinket box to hold your keys, rings or other tiny treasures and bring a touch of autumn home. Take and Make bags must be picked up from the Commack Building before October 31 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Take and Make- K9 Kerchiefs
K-October 1-31
Decorate and color bandanas for the dogs at the Smithtown Animal Shelter to wear on adoption days. Each teen will be given three bandanas and fabric markers to take home to decorate and design. Design and decorate wooden ornaments for the fall season. You will be supplied with everything you need to create custom fall decor for your home! Take and Make bags must be picked up from the Nesconset Building before October 31 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Take and Make – Fall Leaf Mason Jar
S-October 1-31
Say hello to cooler days, spooky nights, and changing leaves! You will be supplied with everything you need to bring the vibrant colors of fall into your home with these festive DIY mason jars. Take and Make bags must be picked up from the Smithtown Building before October 31 during the Library’s scheduled hours. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.
 
Ombré Paper Mobile
Tuesday, October 6 • 4:30pm
Craft away! Let Ms. Navins show you how to create a colorful hanging paper mobile you can display in your room or give as a gift. No registration required. Guess That Phrase
Wednesday, October 7 • 4:00pm

SAT Review
Wednesdays, October 7, 14, 21 & 28 • 6:00 -8:30pm
Over 2 million students will be taking the SAT this year; if you're one of them, how prepared are you? This indispensable four-week course will be led by long-time SAT instructor Tom Kenney. Please note: participants must provide their own copy of the book, The Official SAT Study Guide from The College Board. Registration is required. This program will be available on Zoom. Fee: $100 per patron.
 
Paper Pumpkins

Decorate for the season by creating your very own pumpkin patch out of paper.

Haunted House Virtual Escape Room

It was a dark and stormy night... Try to break out of a house of terrors using clues and codes. Will you be able to escape? No registration required. The Office Trivia

Do you think your sales can keep up with Dwight and Jim? Can you work for Michael? Do you know what Creed even does? Test your Office knowledge with this fun trivia program. Registration is required. Join us for a night of ghoulish snacks and spooky chats. Pick up your pre-made Zombie Nacho kit courtesy of Fanny Cakes Bakery from the Nesconset or Commack Building on Monday, October 26 from 2:00-8:00pm or Tuesday, October 27 from 2:00-6:00pm.
