Teen Services programs are open to those in grades 6-12 (up to age 18) unless otherwise noted.

Take and Makes
Teen Take and Make-Wooden Beach Sign
Smithtown Building

Calling all beach lovers! Create a beautiful wooden sign to display your love of the sun and sand. Kits will be available at the Kings Park and Smithtown buildings beginning June 1 and must be picked up by June 30. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.

Teen Scene Decorating Volunteers

Help us decorate the Teen Scene for our Summer Reading Program! We will paint beautiful window art inspired by this year's theme: "Ocean of Possibilities." Meet us in the teen room and wear old clothes or bring a smock.
 
Battle of the Books
S-Mondays, June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1 & 8 • 3:30-5:00pm
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for young adults who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Teams will answer trivia questions based on six different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun.
 
Sandpaper Printed Totes

Use sandpaper and crayons to create a custom printed tote bag.
 
Summer Kickoff Carnival Volunteers
S-Friday, June 24 • 5:00-8:00pm
Come assist the Children’s Department set up and run a carnival on the front lawn. In the event of rain, this program will be on Friday, July 1.

Teen Take and Make-Ceramic Tile Art

Decorate tiles that can be used as coasters or art pieces. Participants will need their own supply of rubbing alcohol. Supplies can be picked up at the Kings Park and Smithtown Buildings beginning May 2 and must be picked up before May 31. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.

S’more Cake
Wednesday, May 11 • 6:00-8:00pm
What’s s’more fun than baking? Combine marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate cake to put a new spin on this campfire favorite. Pick up your ingredients kit from the Smithtown or Kings Park Building on Monday, May 9 from 4:00-9:00pm or Tuesday, May 10 from 9:30am-9:00pm. The kit provides all of the ingredients except for 2 sticks of butter for the buttercream. We will meet on Zoom to make the cake together. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies. Registration required. Login information for Zoom will be sent to the email address associated with your Library card the day before the event.

Battle of the Books

Are you a teen entering grades 6-9? Do you like trivia and reading? Have you ever heard of Battle of the Books and wondered what the fuss is all about? At this informational meeting, we will release the eight titles featured in this year's competition and discuss the ins and outs of what Battle is all about. Weekly meetings will begin in June to prepare for the final battle on Saturday, August 13.

Learn how to create a 3D file using Tinkercad. We will guide you through the development process so that you can have hands-on experience working with 3D software and creating your own file for printing.

Join The Baking Coach and learn how to make Irish soda bread in time for St. Patrick’s Day. Computer Build-A-Thon Volunteers

In this hands-on program, teens and children will learn about how the different components work together to create a functioning machine. After, teens will be paired up with younger children to help Library staff build brand new computers from scratch.
