  Registration requirements for all programs are listed in the description of each program. Teen Services programs are open to those in grades 6-12 (up to age 18) unless otherwise noted.

Take and Makes
Teen Take and Make –Melon Stacking Sign
Nesconset and Commack Buildings
Oh, hello sweet summer! Create a fun stackable sign to invite warm weather. Supplies can be picked up at the Commack and Nesconset Buildings beginning June 1 and must be picked up before June 30. In person or telephone registration required. Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis.

Take and Bake Dog Treats
N- Thursday, June 2 • 7:00-7:45pm
Help feed our furry friends at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. We will prepare all ingredients for dog treats and you will take them home to bake. Return them to the Library within two days and earn two hours of community service. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.
 
Shrinky Dink Flair
N- Saturday, June 4 • 2:30-3:30pm
Join us as we make our own wearable pop-culture shrinky-dink art.
 
Teen Craft Clean Up
N- Tuesday, June 7 • 4:30-5:30pm
Help us make room for summer by cleaning out and creating with our extra craft supplies!
 
Toy Paramedic Volunteers
N- Tuesday, June 14 • 4:30-5:30pm
Help keep our children's toys in tip top shape. We will clean and sanitize, replace batteries and organize for our littlest patrons.
 
Bookmark Volunteers
N- Friday, June 17 • 4:30-5:30pm
Teen volunteers are needed to design and make bookmarks. Bookmarks will be sent to patrons who are enjoying The Smithtown Library's Homebound Mail Service.
 
Battle of the Books
N- Wednesdays, June 22, 29 • 3:30-5:00pm
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for young adults who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 13 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hauppauge. Teams will answer trivia questions based on six different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun.
 
Getting Ready to Babysit

Fee: $20 per person
Join Cornell Cooperative Extension in this course designed to help teens develop the skills necessary for the responsibility of being a sitter - child safety, developmental stages of children and how to plan activities that are age appropriate. Course certification will be given at the completion of the training.
 
Craft Kits for Kindness
N- Tuesday, June 28 • 4:00-5:00pm
Teen volunteers will be cutting and putting together craft kits to give to our local senior center.
 
Games and Goodies
N- Thursday, June 30 • 7:00-8:00pm
Join in with friends to play the Nintendo Switch and giant board games. Enjoy snacks and beverages as we go head-to-head in some friendly gaming competition. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies.

Create an adorable outdoor beehive using clay pots and paint. A perfect addition for your backyard this summer.
 
Totes to Fill a Table

Design and decorate reusable tote bags to donate to the Smithtown Food Pantry for local families to use and share.
 
Blooming Garden Sign

Spring has sprung! Craft a wooden floral sign to display while the flowers begin to bloom.
 
Battle of the Books
N- Monday, May 16 • 4:15-5:00pm
Are you a teen entering grades 6-9? Do you like trivia and reading? Have you ever heard of Battle of the Books and wondered what the fuss is all about? At this informational meeting, we will release the six titles featured in this year's competition and discuss the ins and outs of what Battle is all about. Weekly meetings will begin in June to prepare for the final battle on Saturday, August 13.

Chess and Checkers Buddies Volunteers

Teach younger children how to play chess and checkers. You do not have to be an expert to volunteer but knowledge of the rules is required.
 
Spring Trinket Box

Decorate a wooden trinket box for jewelry, collectables and more.
