Chess Buddies Volunteers
Monday September 25 • 4:00-5:00pm
Teach younger children how to play chess. You do not have to be a chess expert to volunteer! There will be a 30-minute tutorial at the beginning.  Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Banned Book Tote Bags
Wednesday, September 27 • 5:00-6:00pm
In honor of Banned Books Week, come in and decorate a canvas tote bag to use to carry all of your banned books. Register

Volunteers will work one-on-one with children in grades K-5 assisting them with homework and studying. All volunteers must submit an application and a letter of recommendation prior to the start of the program. The application is available at both the Adult and Children's Reference Desks at the Commack Branch. You must register for each date you wish to volunteer. Teens must attend the training on October 2. Register

Great Give Back Animal Shelter Drive
Thursday, October 12 • 4:30-5:30pm 
Be a part of our Great Give Back and help us create as we create an Animal Shelter Drive that will be at the Commack Branch from October 14-31. Teens we will be make posters of adoptable pets and decorate a donation box to collect animal food and gently used towels and blankets. We will also be making catnip toys for the feline residents of the shelter. This program is part of the Great Give Back series. Register
 
Craft Buddies Volunteers

Spend an afternoon paired with a younger child for a seasonal art project. Register
 
Sugar Skull Banks
Tuesday, October 24 • 7:00-8:00pm 
Día de los Muertos, held on November 1 and 2, honors those in our families that have passed on. Learn about this wonderful holiday while we decorate skull banks in the style of sugar skulls. Register

Do you have what it takes to save the world? See if you can thwart Dr. Johnson’s plans to release a deadly airborne zombie virus in this “Escape the Room” game. Will you be able to find all the clues and solve the puzzle before time runs out? Register

Recycle Station

The Smithtown Library collects un-needed eyeglasses for recycling through the Suffolk Cooperative Library System's services for the sight-impaired.  glasses
The Library is no longer accepting cell phones for recycling.
