3D Printers at The Smithtown Library

 

Thank you to the Friends of The Smithtown Library for donating 3D Printers to each of our Library branches.  Patrons can submit requests to have a designed printed.  These requests are reviewed to ensure they comply with the Library's policy, then sent to the requested pick-up location for printing.

Book Buddies Teen Volunteers
Thursday, May 18 • 4:00-5:00pm
Earn community service by reading to a younger book buddy.  It is a rewarding experience that you won't want to miss. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Chess Buddies Volunteers
Wednesday, May 24 • 4:00-5:00pm
Teach younger children how to play chess. You do not have to be a chess expert to volunteer! There will be a 30-minute tutorial at the beginning.  Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Craft Buddies Volunteers
Monday, May 22 • 4:00-5:00pm
Assist younger children in making a seasonal craft. All materials provided by the Library.  Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Junior LEGO® Buddies Volunteers
Friday, May 26 • 4:00-5:00pm
Be paired with a younger child and help them with their LEGO® creation.  Teens will earn one hour of community service for participating in this program. Register
 
Chemistry Regents Review
Wednesday, May 31 • 6:00-8:00pm
Prepare for this year’s regents exams with a certified instructor. Review materials will be given out at the class. Non-refundable payment of $10.00 cash, money order, online payment, or check made out to the Smithtown Library is due at registration. Registration begins May 1 for Smithtown residents and May 8 for all out of district residents. Register
 
Earth Science Regents Review
Tuesday, June 6 • 6:00-8:00pm
Prepare for this year’s regents exams at your Library! Review materials will be given out at the class. Registration begins May 1 for Smithtown residents and May 8 for all out of-district residents. Please note that there are multiple sessions to choose from for some review classes. Make sure you register for the time you are interested in, as switching may not be possible. Fee: $10.00 per person, per class. Register

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for young adults who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 12 at Stony Brook University. Teams will answer trivia questions based on eight different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun. Register

Join this volunteer program and help young children tinker in this one-of-a-kind lab that explores science, simple mechanics, elements of design and other creative projects.  Each teen will be paired with child to make a unique creation. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Beach Hut Ginger Bread House
Tuesday, July 25 • 7:00-8:30pm 
Create your own beach hut using gingerbread, royal icing and sugar glaze. Make and mold ornaments with fondant and tootsie rolls. Please note: Please inform staff of any allergies when registering. Register
 
Mosaic Butterfly Feeder
Wednesday, July 26 • 4:30-6:00pm 
Learn the art of mosaic tiling by creating this butterfly feeder.  Teens will plan out their design on paper then set the tiles in cement. The feeders will be ready for pick up beginning July 28. Register

Any Smithtown Library cardholder can make an appointment with a librarian for one-on-one training in various library and computer topics. We offer 30-minute sessions in the following areas:
- Using the Library Catalog
- Introduction to Library Databases
- Downloadable eBooks and/or Audiobooks
- eReader and Tablet Demonstrations
- Introduction to Social Networking sites
- And more!

Recycle Station

The Smithtown Library collects the following items for recycling cell phones & eyeglasses.
The Library no longer accepts batteries for recycling. The Town of Smithtown now allows residents to dispose of many household batteries in their garbage. For more information click here.
