Homework Helpers
Monday, October 23 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Monday, October 30 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Volunteers grades 9th-12th will work one-on-one with children in grades K-5 assisting them with homework and studying. All volunteers must submit an application and a letter of recommendation prior to the start of the program. The application is available at both the Adult and Children's Reference Desks at the Commack Branch. You must register for each date you wish to volunteer. Teens must attend the training on October 2. Register

Chess Buddies Volunteers
Tuesday, October 3 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Teach younger children how to play chess. You do not have to be a chess expert to volunteer! There will be a 30-minute tutorial at the beginning. Register

Great Give Back Animal Shelter Drive
Thursday, October 12 • 4:30-5:30pm 
Be a part of our Great Give Back and help us create as we create an Animal Shelter Drive that will be at the Commack Branch from October 14-31. Teens will make posters of adoptable pets and decorate a donation box to collect animal food and gently used towels and blankets. We will also be making catnip toys for the feline residents of the shelter. This program is part of the Great Give Back series. Register

Craft Buddies Volunteers
Wednesday, October 18 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Spend an afternoon paired with a younger child for a seasonal art project. Register

Sugar Skull Banks
Tuesday, October 24 • 7:00-8:00pm 
Día de los Muertos, held on November 1 and 2, honors those in our families that have passed on. Learn about this wonderful holiday while we decorate skull banks in the style of sugar skulls. Register

Book Buddies Teen Volunteers
Wednesday, October 25 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Earn community service by reading to a younger book buddy. It is a rewarding experience that you won't want to miss. Register

Escape Dr. Johnson's Lab
Thursday, October 26 • 5:00-6:00pm 
Do you have what it takes to save the world? See if you can thwart Dr. Johnson’s plans to release a deadly airborne zombie virus in this “Escape the Room” game. Will you be able to find all the clues and solve the puzzle before time runs out? Register

Blankets for Preemies
Wednesday, November 8 • 4:30-5:30pm 
One in every eight babies is born prematurely and spends time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Join us while we make blankets for these tiny fighters and their parents. Register

Spend the evening painting a glass to bring home. Teens can choose from a few designs or create their own. Register

Junior MakerSpace Volunteers
Thursday, December 7 • 4:00-5:00pm
Join this volunteer program and help young children tinker in this one-of-a-kind lab that explores science, simple mechanics, elements of design and other creative projects. Each teen will be paired with child to make a unique creation. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register

Hour of Code Volunteers - Star Wars
Friday, December 8 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Children ages 8 – 10 will be paired with teens in grades 6-12 for an introduction to computer coding starring characters from the Star Wars films. Some computer experience necessary. Register

Wool Needle Felting
Tuesday, December 19 • 7:00-8:00pm
By using a special barbed needle, teens will be able to use wool to create a beautiful work of art that can be framed or used as a patch. Register

The Smithtown Library collects un-needed eyeglasses for recycling through the Suffolk Cooperative Library System's services for the sight-impaired.  glasses
